Are your pies gluten-free?
We do have a gluten-free apple pie available – please ask our staff about other gluten-free options that are available.
Can we bring our dog?
We have “dog parking” near the entrance to the Shed Café and Shop.
Is the café/shop child friendly?
Yes, we welcome children. We have school desks, toys and books for the children as well as an outdoor café garden where children enjoy playing.
Can we pick the apples?
We don’t offer apple picking anymore as all of our apples are needed for our produce and our juices.
Is the cafe wheelchair friendly?
Yes. The cafe is single level and there are no stairs. We have a disabled toilet within the cafe/shop area.
How many different kinds of apples do you grow on the orchard?
We grow both dessert and cider apples on the orchard. Dessert apple varieties include Royal Gala, Granny Smith, Fuji, Pink Lady, Sundowner and Lady William apples. Cider apples include Freyberg and Golden Harvey.
Are your apples organic?
Our orchard is not organic but we use environmentally friendly orcharding practices.
What apples do you use in your apple pie?
During the five-month apple season we use whatever apples are currently ripe on the trees. These include Royal Gala, Fuji, Pink Lady, Sundowner and Lady William apples. Throughout the rest of the year we use stored apples. These are mainly Pink Lady apples.
Do you use additives in your apple juice?
We do not use additives or preservatives to our juice and it is not made from reconstituted juice. It is 100% pure juice which has been gently pasteurised. It is best kept in the pantry and we have a “best before” date on all juice of one year. Once it is opened it will keep for up to one week in the fridge.
What do you do with the apple pulp after you have pressed the juice?
The apple pulp is collected by local farmers who feed it to their sheep and cattle.
How long have you been running this business?
We purchased the orchard in 1994 and began making our value added products in 2000 and then started the shop a few years later. The café was added in 2009.
Do your family help you in this business?
David and Ros are the only family members who run the business. When their children were at school and university they helped on the farm.
